This exciting news will mean that visitors to Magic Kingdom no longer need to choose which virtual queue they want to try to get a place in at 7am and 1pm. From 9th September the only attraction in Magic Kingdom that will be using the system is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Will Tron continue to use a virtual queue system?
The last day Tron is using the virtual queue system is 8th September. From Monday 9th September Magic Kingdom park goers will not need a virtual queue to ride Tron. You will be able to walk up the slope, under the canopy, and join the stand-by queue.
Tron will no longer use the virtual queue system. You won’t need to get a space and a boarding queue place with a limiting call-back time any more. Guests can join the stand-by queue when they choose. Expect to see the wait times popping up on your My Disney Experience App map on Monday!
What does Tron using a stand-by queue mean for guests?
Visitors who hate the virtual queue system can now rejoice as it will be so much easier to ride Tron. No waiting and praying to get a spot in a queue, is you want to ride Tron you will be able to, as long as you join the queue in the standby line.
We predict that there are going to be some long wait time ahead. We expect an influx of visitors wanting to ride Tron from 9th September. Visitors will be able to choose the time of day that they ride, and guests will no longer have to hang around waiting for a boarding group to be called for this ride. This is another big advantage for guests, as the boarding group call back time was always a guessing game impacting your day.
Why have Disney made this change?
The change was an inevitable one. The virtual queue system is not a permanent measure, Disney use it as more of a crowd control measure. On the website Disney say:
“Virtual queues continue to be helpful with the launch of popular attractions and the debut of new experiences and offerings, so we may use them again from time to time for select experiences in the future.”
We suspect that with the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tron was no longer the hottest ride in the park. As a result of this Tron no longer needed a virtual queue. Clearly there may be a need in the future and Disney reserve the right to use virtual queue systems where needed.
For guests who have been visiting the park during July and August there was noticeably more availability to get a spot in Tron’s virtual queue. On multiple days there were slots still available to ride Tron at 1.20pm, which was very rare in June. Before Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened Tron’s virtual queue spaces were gone within seconds most mornings and at 1pm.
This statement does lead us to say that new likely popular attractions opening, like the Villains Club that was announced this week, will probably get a virtual queue.
I want to ride Tron, how do I do that now?
If you want to ride Tron before the 9th September, you will continue to use the virtual queue system which you can learn more about in A Brits Guide to Using A Virtual Queue. Our guide will be updated for the 9th September so it is always relevant for you. Why not book mark the page to help you navigate virtual queues?
If you are visiting Magic Kingdom on the 9th September, or after, you can join the stand-by lane when you want, to ride Tron.
What does Tron using a stand-by queue mean for wait times?
As we mention above, we predict queue times are going to be long, especially during the first few weeks. It is highly possible that wait times will be well over an hour for this attraction most of the day. Guests looking to beat the wait time can still buy a Lightning Lane Single Pass for this attraction.
The Lightning Lane Single Pass is not the best option for UK guests. Being unable to book them 7 days in advance, as US guests now can, is leading to limited availability. Unless you’re using a VPN to trick the App, or already in the states when your booking window opens up Single Passes are tricky to buy. With that said, always check as there may be availability. An alternative is to use rope drop strategy. It is more budget friendly and will work for Tron from the 9th September onwards.
We suggest for now, embrace the queue and enjoy the ability to know that you are going to be able to enjoy riding Tron as part of your Magic Kingdom day as long as you queue. It’s better to have the option to queue than to have the disappointment of wanting to ride and not being able to because the virtual queue is full.
Conclusion
This is great news for guests fed up of choosing which virtual queue to opt for on a Magic Kingdom park day. It also frees up your park day to an extent as you no longer have to wait to see when your boarding group will be called to ride. Tron is finally a much more accessible ride experience for everyone.
